strip/fuck
Continuing with the telly commentary, let's turn to that other form of entertainment, the tv series. one of my faves right now has to be nip/tuck. this is porn with a storyline - they should use this as their pay-off line. blow-up dolls (with real suction action, of course), pavement-masturbating teens and hot lesbian temptresses are all somehow made to seem justified in telling each episode's tale, and don't seem gratuitous. I always measure how x-rated i think a tv show is by imagining i was watching it with my parents. this show would definitely make me squirm in front of them (if they even left it on long enough to get to the threesomes)...
this got me to thinking (yes, today i'm thinking) about other shows that were/are perceived to be controversial or much hyped about. i've noticed that these series find a formula that keeps bringing viewers back, then exaggerate it to a point where it loses any link to reality. 2 examples spring to mind - ally mcbeal (could she stop doing some stupid antic long enough to say one decent line?) and six feet under (riiiiiight... brenda's having a threesome with two college boys, then gets fingered by a man in a clothing store while his wife's standing 2 metres away). so - has nip/tuck crossed that line and become a gratuitously shocking programme that has lost all touch with reality? or has it just blinded me into content submission with its outrageous porn antics (and more importantly, that hot doctor Christian?) grr... play on, i say.
